Dr. Susan Barr

Dr. Susan BarrDr. Susan Barr is a Professor of Nutrition at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She currently works as Director of the Human Nutrition Graduate Program, and teaches undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses.

Her research interests focus on interrelationships among nutrition, physical activity and women's health, with a particular emphasis on bone health. She has published over 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has over 100 other publications (published abstracts, book chapters, articles in newsletters, etc.). She is currently an editorial board member of the International Journal of Sport Nutrition, and has been on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association and the Journal of Nutrition Education.

Dr Barr presently holds an appointment as Chair of the Food and Nutrition Board's Subcommittee on Interpretation and Uses of the Dietary Reference Intakes. Her memberships in scientific and professional organizations include Dietitians of Canada, where she served as vice president and in various capacities on the Board of Directors, the American Society of Nutritional Sciences, the American Dietetic Association, and the American College of Sports Medicine. She is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Osteoporosis Society of Canada and the Medical Advisory Board of the Milk Processors' Education Program. She was also an author of a joint position on nutrition and athletic performance, released in December 2000 by Dietitians of Canada, the American Dietetic Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Barr is a Fellow of Dietitians of Canada and of the American College of Sports Medicine, and has received awards for teaching, research, and service.
