Evidence-Based Decision Making - Online Course
About the Course:
Learning to ask questions that can be answered from the literature, knowing what literature to search, and appraising the literature for its appropriateness to practice are skills needed by every dietitian to be effective in today's work environment. Building on the Users' Guides to the Medical Literature1, this course will foster skills needed for evidence-based practice in all areas of dietetics.
To support dietitians in gaining and enhancing those skills, Dietitians of Canada offers a Masters Level (non university credit) course - Evidence-Based Decision Making - in collaboration with the Centre for Health Evidence, University of Alberta. The next course offering will be for June 2nd - December 12th, 2008.
The intent of this course is to help practitioners improve their ability to find, appraise and use evidence about health care interventions appearing in the health sciences literature. An evidence-based approach can be applied to health policy making, public health, systems-level decisions as well as those involving individual client care. Experiential learning is emphasized with many nutrition-specific cases and appraisal exercises featured throughout the course. See the course overview and objectives for each module.
